A Message from the Chief Residents
Welcome and thank you for your interest in our program! Loyola is an excellent place to train, with excellent cases, a balanced education in both anatomic (AP) and clinical (CP) pathology, a collegial atmosphere and world renowned attendings
Loyola accepts four PGY-1 residents each year. The AP and CP rotations are mixed to offer early exposure and spaced repetition. We have protected time from 8-9AM every morning for didactics and unknown slide sessions utilizing an 18 headed microscope in our conference room.
Loyola pathology residents participate in a number of tumor boards and interdepartmental conferences. The interaction among faculty, fellows, and residents provides a professional and supportive environment for learning.
In the resident room, everyone has their own desk, computer, microscope, and locker. The surgpath fellows are with us, and we have a multi-headed scope which is great for quick and informal teaching from seniors and fellows. The resident room gives a great home base for our residents and gives us a place to call home while we are here.
Outside of the resident room we enjoy being social with activities ranging from whirlyball to group dinners to second city improv sessions over Zoom. Being located in Maywood offers residents the opportunity to live in the suburbs or the city, and still be close enough to enjoy the benefits of both. The Chicago area has many restaurants, breweries, parks, sporting events, and theaters; you can explore and find new things year after year.
Loyola is a great choice to pursue residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology, and can also be a place for your fellowship training. We have fellowships in Cytopathology, Hematopathology, Dermatopathology, and Surgical Pathology. Some of our residents stay here to complete fellowship training while others have gone to some of the nation’s other top pathology programs, including Mayo Clinic, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Yale, Northwestern University, and Stanford University.
We hope you will consider Loyola for your future pathology training. We encourage you to obtain more information about our program, explore the beautiful campus, and become a part of Loyola’s future. Please feel free to contact us with questions about our training program. We look forward to hearing from you! Good luck!
