Message from the Residency Program Directors

Residents at Loyola rotate through various divisions of the clinical laboratories, the autopsy service, and surgical pathology sections. There is ample opportunity for teaching (medical students, medical laboratory scientists etc.). In addition, elective rotations are available for additional training in sub-specialty areas of interest. If desired, there is also opportunity for investigative work in experimental pathology. ACGME accredited fellowship training is offered in Cytopathology, Dermatopathology and Hematopathology. In addition, we also offer a Surgical Pathology fellowship geared toward the personal interests of the trainee.

Residents at Loyola combine their practices across our facilities at both the Loyola University Healthcare System and the Hines VA Hospital.  The two facilities have a total of 1,568 beds, and are immediately adjacent to one another. Across both institutions, approximately 100 autopsies, more than 30,000 surgical cases, 28,000 cytology cases and about 2.3 million laboratory procedures are performed annually.
