Laboratory Quality and Point of Care Testing

The Loyola Medicine Laboratory supports clinical and pathology testing across the region, delivering high quality results.  Our laboratories are accredited by organizations including Collage of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).

Point of Care Testing: Millions of tests are performed each year outside of the laboratory at the bedside, during procedures, in clinics, and at patient care sites across Loyola Medicine.  These tests can be manual methods or automated instruments and include glucose levels, coagulation, blood gases, urinalysis, hemoglobin A1C, pregnancy tests, and many others.  These tests are often performed by nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, medical assistants, and other clinical support professionals.  The laboratory scientists that support point of care testing are our Point of Care Coordinators.  They work with each unit or clinic to ensure high quality testing through training, competency assessment, quality control, instrument monitoring, and troubleshooting.
