Neuropathology
The Neuropathology Section provides clinical services, teaches medical students and residents, and participates in research activities. The clinical services encompass all surgical and autopsy neuropathology, including neoplastic and non-neoplastic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, neuromuscular disorders, and ophthalmic pathology. We participate in several working conferences including weekly multidisciplinary Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board, monthly neurology Clinical-Pathological Correlation Conference, and weekly Brain Cutting Conference.
We also provide educational activities for Loyola residents from Pathology, Neurology, Neurological Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Loyola and visiting medical students. Trainees participate in neurosurgical sign-out, intraoperative consultations, and weekly neuropathology autopsy conferences. In addition, glass slide and digital study sets are available for self-study.
Research activities include collaboration with a number of other departments and programs, including Neurosciences, Neurology, Neurological Surgery, with main research focus on primary brain tumors, vascular brain diseases, and Alzheimer's disease. In addition, the section of Neuropathology assists clinical and basic scientists in tissue preparation and analysis.
