Constantine Kanakis, MD, Msc

Constantine graduated from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine and has found his way home back to Chicago. As a first year resident, Aki joins us with a wealth of experience as a former medical laboratory scientist and has been recognized nationally as an ASCP 2017 Top Forty Under Forty honoree and was named to The Pathologist Power List for 2020. He is interested in hematopathology and transfusion medicine.

Outside of pathology you can find “Aki” in many places, as he loves to travel. Closer to home, he is an avid fencer, enjoys writing and illustration, and cooking up delicious meals for himself and his wife. He loves the classic movie “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” and watching Dr. Who.

On why he chose Loyola: “When you know, you know: I chose Loyola for three main reasons: the fantastic anatomic/clinical curriculum, a wide selection of accomplished mentors available, and the strong sense of community. So many excellent faculty trained here and stayed/returned to Loyola. That all told me that this place offered something very special.”
